SCALES £150.00 + £15.00 P&P (UK) |
|
As can be seen they are made by the famous scale makers -
J.D.TOWERS & Co Ltd, WIDNES England. But when I cannot say! They look to be early to mid 20th century and are unusual in as much as they weigh
METRIC and not IMPERIAL. They have a thin-wall cast iron base with all mechanical being cantilevered to maintain level weight and weighing trays. For some reason the number 42 is stamped on an enamelled plate to the rear of the fine balance adjustment (see pic) (for "Hitchhiker's guide fans 42 is the answer to everything!) . The trays are made of brass plate and nickel plated then lacquered. The lacquer is dull or rather the nickel is dull now and has been damaged in the base of the "scoop" tray very slightly. The entire mechanism feels "damped" in movement as it is very smooth and the time it takes to stabilise after adjustment shows the smoothness and accuracy of equilibrium.
I would think that this is highly desirable for anyone who is interested in scales for whatever reason! I like them for just being a remarkable piece of engineering and will be sorry to see them go but there is a very good reason for their sale.
Please note: Because of their weight shipping will have to be advised later but they weigh in the region of 6Kg without packaging so international clients please confirm shipping prices.
